How To Prettify Your Popular Posts Gadget

When I came to redesigning this blog, I wanted to prettify, if you like, my popular posts gadget. I came across a few tutorials online, but only Holly, from Bloomin Rouge, had the answer I was looking for. I thought I would share the same tutorial for you, but add my own CSS code so it looks like my popular posts gadget in the sidebar.

First of all, you need to add the popular posts gadget to your sidebar, which you can do by heading to your dashboard and clicking 'Layout', 'Add a Gadget', 'Popular Posts'. Make sure snippet is unchecked and decide how many posts you want displayed. At the moment, I have 5 posts as this is a good selection of posts.

Next, go to your dashboard and click on 'Template' and then 'Edit HTML'. Then, click CTRL + F, and type in the searchbar </head>. Just above this tagline add:

<style type='text/css'>
      .PopularPosts .item-thumbnail a {
        clip: auto;
        display: block;
        height: 180px;
        overflow: hidden;
        width: 240px;
        margin-left: -8px;
      }
      .PopularPosts .item-thumbnail img {
        position: relative;
        top: -30px;
        transition:all .2s linear;
        -o-transition:all .5s linear;
        -moz-transition:all .2s linear;
        -webkit-transition:all .2s linear;
      }
      .PopularPosts .item-thumbnail img:hover{
        opacity:.6;
        filter:alpha(opacity=60)
      }
      .PopularPosts .widget-content ul li {
        color: #555555;
      }
      .PopularPosts .item-title {
        clear:both;
        font: 10px cantarell;
        color: #222222;
        text-transform: uppercase;
        text-align: center;
        margin-right: 10px;
      }
      .PopularPosts .item-snippet {
        display: none;
      }
      .widget .widget-item-control a img {
        height: 18px;
        width: 18px;
      }
    </style>

Now still in the template editor, type in the searchbar </body>. Again, just above it you need to add this following code:

<script type='text/javascript'>
      function changeThumbSize(id,size){
        var blogGadget = document.getElementById(id);
        var replacement = blogGadget.innerHTML;
        blogGadget.innerHTML = replacement.replace(/s72-c/g,&quot;s&quot;+size+&quot;-c&quot;);
        var thumbnails = blogGadget.getElementsByTagName(&quot;img&quot;);
        for(var i=0;i&lt;thumbnails.length;i++){
          thumbnails[i].width = size;
          thumbnails[i].height = size;
        }
      }
      changeThumbSize(&quot;PopularPosts1&quot;,240);

    </script>

Click 'Preview Template' to check it is how you like it, and then click 'Save Template'.

FREE Geometric School Book Covers

One of my favourite parts of returning to school is buying new stationery and decorating my books ready for the new term. I have recently decorated one of my old school books in Chloe's school book covers and I thought it looked great! I am now using it as my blogging notebook and planning all of my posts and ideas, and I wanted to create a couple of book covers for you to decorate your own books ready for school!

There are two geometric patterns, triangles and crosses, and they come in five different colours; black, grey, light purple, light pink and baby blue. In the set, I have included some binding paper and some labels that you can stick onto your front covers. To download them, click on the cover you want and click the download icon in Google Drive.

Black Crosses // Triangles
Grey Crosses // Triangles
Light Purple Crosses // Triangles
Light Pink Crosses // Triangles
Light Blue Crosses // Triangles
Binding
Labels

I won't go into massive detail about how you cover them as there are lots of tutorials online, however I cover my books by printing out the pattern onto 2 sheets of A4 paper, one for the back and one for the front. Then, I glue one side of the book, usually the back first, leaving everywhere covered in glue and stick that onto the book at a portrait orientation. I then fold and glue the excess paper into the inside of the book to ensure a clean finish. I do this on both sides and then neaten up the bind with the binding paper. If they are for school books, you might want to add your name and class onto the labels and stick them on the front too.

Hope you enjoy these, and please ask questions in the comments if you have any problems!

What I Think Makes A Great Holiday Bag

Sadly, I'm not off on some exotic holiday this summer, but I am pretty sure some of you are! I love packing for holidays and one of my favourite bags to pack is my everyday one. For some people, they pack each day to suit their needs, however I like to pack beforehand so all I have to do is pick up my bag and go, in confidence that I have everything I need. Without further ado, here are the essentials I think makes a great holiday bag!

Lipbalm.
When my lips go dry, getting lip balm onto them becomes my number one priority. I absolutely hate having dry lips, and having a tendency to lick them really doesn't help either. I like to carry a tube or tin of lip balm that I know will moisturise my lips for a good few hours so I don't have to worry about them drying. If I am going on holiday for a longer period of time, I take a couple of tubes or tins so I don't run out!

Camera.
Whether this be my iPhone or Canon 100D, I love to document my adventures in photos so I can look back on them and think about the happy memories. One thing I hope to do this year is print out all of my photos and organise them into a scrapbook, so I can have a hard copy of all of my photos to flick through occasionally.

Money.
Bit of a obvious one, but I like to bring a bit of spending money with me when visiting places. I tend to ration my money between the amount of days I am on holiday so I don't end up spending it all at once. If I go abroad, then I usually keep a tiny amount of English money too, just in case someone wants to be paid in pounds instead of their own currency.

Toiletries.
I like to keep a few essentials on hand just in case of any emergencies or alike, just in case! These include deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, and a packet of wipes to refresh if it is a really hot day or if I get my hands dirty etc. I don't know why - but having these relaxes me because if anything happens, I can sort it out quickly!

Entertainment.
If I am ever in need of a bit of entertainment to pass the time, I usually head towards my social media sites like Instagram or Twitter. However, if I am in a place with no wifi or much signal I turn to a trusty book, one of my favourite hobbies. Even if I have already read the book 5 times, I love settling down in a cosy place and losing myself in a book for a couple of hours.

What are your holiday bag items?

Blog Post Topics I Love To Read

One of the great things about blogging is the community it comes with, and the exposure to new blogs. I love finding new blogs that I enjoy reading and catching up on, and I thought I would share with you some of my favourite post topics that I always read. I also thought that this would be a good focus point for myself, and a point of direction for this blog so I can continue publishing posts that I enjoy reading and creating.

Blogging related posts.
I always love to improve myself and this blog, and blogging related posts are a great way to do this. Agreed - you do get some that are frankly rubbish, however the majority of them are useful and can impact your blog for the better.

Wishlists.
Another post I love to read is people's wishlists - a classic idea, but great! Wishlists are one of the best ways to gain pageviews, as everyone loves a good haul of your favourite wanted things. Still to this day, my wishlists remains one of my most popular posts, which has got to prove something! I find these posts personal and engaging because you get to know the tastes the bloggers have.

Catchup posts.
In moderation, these posts are actually really nice to read, especially when the blogger is someone who takes things seriously on their blog, and relied upon it for their income. I find that these posts allow a insight into that blogger's life, and allows the reader to view them as a friend.

Free wallpapers.
Not unlike many other people I love freebies, especially if they are cute and relatable to me. There are so many talented designers that don't take advantage of this demand and potentially lose out on pageviews and followers. I love seeing monthly calendars and currently I am using Oana Befort for my computer desktop wallpaper and Beloved Bluebird for my iPod wallpaper, as they are gorgeous!

These are some of my favourite posts to read - how about you?

Ask Me Anything #2 Responses

What was the last big event you went to?
The last big event I went to must have been the 5 Seconds of Summer concert a few days ago. It was amazing, and I loved every moment. I went with my two friends and I hope to go to other concerts in the future that will be as good as the past one!

On a scale of 1 to 10, what would you rate your self confidence at?
I would rate my self confidence at around a 8. I don't have any problems with the way I look etc, I just worry sometimes about peoples opinion of me. I think everyone gets this sometimes, and overall I feel like I am a very confident person, especially in the company of my friends and family!

Do you use/suggest any apps or websites for tracking Instagram followers? Like who unfollows you, the percentage of growth, etc?

I don't track my Instagram, but my friends have said that Instrack is a good app to use. One thing I would say, is be careful not to be addicted to your social media, as it can damage your self-confidence if you get lots of unfollowers or negative results etc. Just looking out for my readers!

Can you post a beginner's guide to using your camera and how you edit your photos? <3

I did post something like this here and here but in answer to your question, YES I will post another camera/photography post soon.

Do you have a British accent?
Yes, I think so?!

Who/what is your biggest motivation when you are in a slump?
I don't get unmotivated often, but when I do I hate it! If it is blogging related, I would have to say that my motivation is probably my readers, as I always love providing content and entertainment for you. If it is something else I don't really have a motivation idol, but instead I usually take a shower, get changed into one of my favourite outfits and put on some of my favourite tunes!

How do I find my niche for my blog, and get it out there?
First of all, I would consider what you enjoy writing about and stick to that as your niche. Once you have done this, you can regularly post about this topic until you have a good selection of posts for your readers. After this, I suggest setting up a Instagram and Twitter account to promote your latest posts and gain a following that can keep updated with your blog. Also, make friends with other bloggers by commenting regularly, and following other blogs that have a similar niche.

Where do you like to shop?
I like to shop in quite a few places actually; H&M, New Look, Paperchase, Superdrug and IKEA!

What's your favorite season?
This is a difficult one as in terms of weather, I love summer! However, I love the fashion in Autumn so make what you want of that.

Do you have a specific major you're interested in for uni?
Not really! I have just chosen my GCSE's and at the moment, I am looking at becoming a primary school teacher. This could change, as everyone's aspirations always change as they grow older, but this has been something I wanted to do since I was little!

What are your favorite T.V. shows?
I love lots of television shows, including; The Syndicate, The Next Step, Humans, and I have been watching Wimbledon quite a bit!

What are your hobbies aside from blogging?
I absolutely love to sing, act and dance so those would be my main hobbies, and I love photography and designing things too!

Where is the place you really want to go to?
America! I just think that it would be a chance in a lifetime, and I would gain some really great experiences and adventures.

How about you? What are your answers to the questions?
